Labor & Delivery

Going into labor early was not something that I expected to happen. As my weekly appoinments started approaching so did the high blood pressure. Each time I went and saw my doctor it was on the rise. It was Friday June 8th when I had my last appointment, I went in, got weighed, got my blood pressure taken, and met with my doctor. When she entered the room she explained that my blood pressure had sky rocketed. I was 166 over 99. She did my ultra sound and explained to me that the swolleness that I was experiencing and the high blood pressure showed signs of preclamsia. She looked at me and said, Lindsay we need to get this baby out of you, she told me to hold tight that she was going to schedule my inducement with McKay-Dee and to plan on delivering my baby the next day. I immediately started crying (insert MAJOR hormones) called Joey and said honey we are having this baby tomorrow.
It was about 2:30 in the afternoon and I called my boss and told her I would not be coming back into work that I was being induced. I went home and started on my cleaning rampage.. I had no idea where all of the energry had come from but I got so much done that afternoon, then frantically waited for Joey to get home from work. I showered, packed up the last minute things for the hospital, then when Joey got home he went and got me dinner from Rumbi.
I didn't know what to expect when they told me I was being induced, but we went to the hospital, checked in, and the process began.
I wasn't expecting for my doctor to break my water until that next morning but I got a nice wake up call at 2:45am when my doctor came into the room to break my water. She had been called in for a delivery and decided that she would get me started a little earlier since she was there. After my water was broke, my contractions got worse and finally the epidural came. I was up most of the night with some pretty harsh contractions, I kept having to get a redose of my epidural along with heartburn medicine, which all made me pretty nauseated throughout my entire labor. When my nurses came to check me that morning I was dialated to a 5, finally around 1:00pm I was at a 10. I began pushing my guts out 3 sets of 10 second pushing, rest, repeat! Finally after about 3 hours of pushing my nurses just knew he wasn't coming out and that I would more than likely need help getting him out. My doctor showed up about 4:00pm and told me that my little guy was not coming out on his own and gave me two options, I could either have a C-section, or she could use the forceps. After hearing my nurses tell me that Dr. Johansson specializes with forceps, I knew that was my choice. After two BIG pushes, Brody Kevin Black was born at 4:13pm. They immediately placed him in my arms and at that very moment, my life changed completely! It is unreal the amount of love you can have for someone you just met. Brody was instantly the center of our world!
The nurses then took him from me to get him cleaned, weighed, and measured. Once he was placed on the scale the nurses looked at all of us and said, are you ready for this... They turned the scale around and Brody weighed 9lbs. 15oz. and 22 inches long! YES you read that right, my babe was almost 10 pounds even at 11 days early!! Thank goodness he came sooner!
People always say giving birth is the most amazing thing you will ever experience and it is just that. I would do it all over again, the 20 weeks straight of sickness, the constant throwing up, gaining 60 pounds, the swollen feet.. I would go do it all again today just to have this baby here! He is the most amazing thing and I can't even begin to explain how much we love him!
Joey helping me put my socks on since by that time I couldn't even touch my toes.

My fresh manicure :)

My lovely swollen feet.

I have so many more great pictures of the labor and delivery process that Lacy took but unfortunately my computer isn't cooperating.. more detailed photos to come later!

Here are some pictures in Fathers day just a week after Brody was born.
